Are tiny homes an affordable housing solution for high-priced La Plata County? Dec. 26th, 2020
For Sandra Brooks, living in a tiny home was an easy, affordable way to spend her retirement.
“I wanted a place I felt I could live the rest of my life,” said Brooks, a resident at Escalante Village in Durango. “I feel like I could live here and be older and that people would kind of watch out for me.”
But tiny home living is easier said than done, especially for the new tiny homeowner or residential community developer.
Tiny homes, typically defined as 100- to 400-square-foot homes, have a reputation as trendy housing that offers more mobility, an environmentally friendly lifestyle and an affordable housing solution.
New manufactured home, tiny home park approved in Animas Valley Sept. 11th, 2020
A new, 22-space manufactured home and tiny home park in the Animas Valley was approved Thursday by the La Plata County Planning Commission.
According to county records, the 22 homes would be located on a nearly 7-acre property that has six existing homes. It would be located at 7922 County Road 203, which borders the commercial development that includes Hermosa Grill and gas station.
Christopher Hall, who owns and lives on the property, said the mix of manufactured units and tiny homes would provide affordable housing for the community.
