A job or career in the tiny house industry is a dream that a lot of people have, but the other side of the coin is we have an industry that is also struggling to find competent workers and there is a shortage of skilled laborers. There is also a shortage of inspectors and building department officials that are reaching retirement age with no replacements.

What New Construction Jobs Mean For Mortgage Industry

Last Friday’s jobs report pointed to a strong economic bounce back in October. The US economy added a total of 638,000 jobs, dropping unemployment to 6.9%. Meanwhile, mortgage and housing industry analysts highlighted around 84,000 jobs added in construction during October. Of that 84,000, around 24,000 jobs are in home building and remodeling, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), a development that’s being greeted as good news for the mortgage industry.

Construction and Extraction Occupations

Employment in construction and extraction occupations is projected to grow 4 percent from 2019 to 2029, about as fast as the average for all occupations, and gain about 296,300 new jobs. Overall growth in the economy and population will increase demand for new buildings, roads, and other structures, which will create new jobs in construction and extraction occupations.

The median annual wage for all construction and extraction occupations was $47,430 in May 2019, which was higher than the median annual wage for all occupations of $39,810.

One way we can bridge the gap between those who need a job with those who are offering a job is to unite the information under one roof. Today we are starting a job and career board for those who are looking for a job or career in the tiny house industry or are offering a job in the industry.

This country needs HOPE and we need to come together united as one humanity and extend help and love to those around us.

What would a new job or career mean to someone right now? Often it could mean life or death, feeding their family, not giving up on life.

Promote Work Trades For Our Youth

Part of the Mission of Tiny House Alliance USA is to promote work trades for our youth and to give them hope for a prosperous future. A beautiful example is Students Helping Veterans.

Students Helping Veterans: Big Heroes is a student-community collaborative project, spearheaded by Summer Creek and Kingwood Park High Schools in Humble ISD. Their goal is to provide student-built tiny homes for homeless veterans in the Houston area.

In collaboration with local architects, engineers, and other community partners, the schools will design and build homes on each campus, with the intent of including other schools in the Houston area as the project progresses and ultimately lead to becoming an inspiration Nationwide.

Employment Outlook For Construction And Building Inspectors

Employment of construction and building inspectors is projected to grow 10 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations.

Public interest in safety and the desire to improve the quality of construction are factors that are expected to continue to create demand for inspectors. Employment growth for inspectors is expected to be strongest in government and in firms specializing in architectural, engineering, and related services.

Typical Pay for Construction and Building Inspectors

The median annual wage for construction and building inspectors was $58,480 in May 2016. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $34,830, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $94,220.

Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations

Most states and local jurisdictions require construction and building inspectors to have a license or certification. Others may require certification by associations such as the International Code Council, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, and the National Fire Protection Association.
